WOMAN'S SPACE
Style & Spirituality
BY DAWN JORDAN, ENGLAND

Finding the right colours, materials and styles to express in the best possible way what lives inside of us is a constant, interesting, enjoyable (but sometimes frustrating) part of being a member of the feminine gender. Wearing the right combination can often help us feel more confident about ourselves and cause a feeling of well-being. Dawn Jordan, herself professionally trained in this area, gives us a new perspective.

Each human is a living, breathing, developing, shimmering spirit life, anchored and housed inside a physical body whilst on Earth, and with the in-built possibility of connection to higher creational and universal influences. We each have an aura - which is the electro-magnetic radiation that is formed from what influences (high or low) we choose to mix with, process and connect to in our life. Whatever we process on the inside radiates out from us every moment of the day - unseen this may be but not unfelt - and this processing signals the true fabric of our lives. So when we consider how to portray ourselves on the outside - what to wear, how to sit and speak, what to say, what words to use, how to behave - we can add into our consideration the presentation not only of our physical body, but also of our inner values, beliefs and qualities, and of our higher purpose and connections. In that way our external appearance is aligned with and supports our internal processes and connections. For whilst others may only see our physical appearance, and hear our language, they do also feel our radiation, and if these three are not aligned, something knows. Have you ever experienced those moments when a person walks, talks, sounds and seems the part, but a little voice inside you says “something just doesn’t quite feel right here?” That is the unseen you, connecting with the unseen them, often at an unconscious or semiconscious level saying, “something doesn’t add up!”

This says that our external presentation is important, not so much from the standpoint of being fashionable (which is the primary message we are presented with throughout life), but rather because how we choose to portray ourselves can assist or prevent us in our spiritual purpose. For our external appearance gives messages not only to others, but also inwardly to ourselves, and can be a mark of self-care and self-respect.

Whilst style is not to do with being fashionable as a first principle, it is useful to wear contemporary clothes so as not to appear outdated or historic - to yourself or to others. It’s a wise person who constantly refreshes and updates their thinking, appearance and behaviour in recognition of their stage of life and development. Reflecting our inner progress on the outside of ourselves ensures we keep in step with where we are now and where we’re heading. This helps us move forward by not constantly linking back to the past.

As well as a way of updating and authentically representing our inner selves, external presentation can also be a great way of detecting what is going on in others or ourselves. Why not try this exercise - it’s something I often do and that I encourage my clients to do:

  • Sort your wardrobe by colour - I’ve sorted mine by spectrum colour - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. This in itself is revealing because you’ll notice what colours you don’t have.
  • When deciding what to wear, close your eyes and run your hand very slowly along the clothes in your wardrobe, a couple ofcentimetres away from the fabric. Slowly try to sense what comes back to you - it may be a warming, tingling or cooling of your hand, an image in your head, a sigh or a sound, it could be anything - try to sense any small change.
  • When you feel this small change or sensation, put your hand forward and select that item of clothing.
  • Open your eyes - this is the item that your senses have selected...

If you want to take this exercise further, you might ponder why your senses selected this item, perhaps looking at its colour, pattern, the fabric, the style and sense what is says about how you are today, what you need and what is influencing you. I have found it gives me all sorts of clues because I often wear deep, bold colours that suit my physical colouring, yet some days I am drawn to pastel blues, pinks and lilacs. For me that can indicate that I am in a more reflective inner process and I take this into account during the day.

So I encourage you to experiment, give your senses free range, and just have a go. This is not an exact science, it’s an invitation to discovery…. the discovery of you and what influences you!
