The Different Lives in the Feminine Gender

© Feminenza 2003
From within and ‘whitout’ us the tenant is watching...

In this edition of Feminenza Magazine, you will find various articles referring to these lives and thus we thought it might be useful to provide you with some background information. We can only provide you with a few pointers, as we could write a whole magazine about each of these lives and all the related areas. In the articles you will find the four described as characters, actresses and lives. They all represent different aspects of how these dynamics find an expression in us. These lives can also be discerned in the male gender in the form of, ‘ The Male’, ‘The Man’, ‘The Gentleman’ and ‘The Tenant’, (the same for both genders). However their natures will manifest in different ways. We will probably come back to this in later editions.

The Female
She relates to our body and the full potential that we are born with. The first 12 years of life are very important for her formation, but also after this time she will develop further and go through changes such as puberty and the menopause. The ‘Female’ in us has a limited view of the world around her; you could say that she wears ‘blinkers’. She likes to focus her attention on one thing and to give that her full concentration. By nature she has a strong instinct, which tells her very clearly what is and is not good for her. It depends on the development of the other three lives as to what degree she can learn to translate these instinctive feelings. When the ‘Female’ is still young, these instinctive feelings can often be misread as obstinate or awkward behaviour, because she feels something which she wants to respond to, but does not have the consciousness yet to know why it is like that.

The Woman
This life comes into ‘action’ during and after puberty and this is when we start getting to know her. From this time on we not only have to deal with the ‘Female’, but we have the ‘Woman’ as well. Maybe we can all remember that at the time of puberty our horizon was broadened dramatically, we started to look at the world in a very different way and wanted new adventures. This all has to do with the budding ‘ Woman’ in us. She is very capable and has a 360° view - is it not true that children sometimes have the feeling that their mothers have eyes in the back of their heads? She can manage many things at once and juggles many priorities and tasks. She fulfils the manager’s role for the four lives and often organises those around her, like her family and friends. The ‘Woman’ takes care that all aspects of her life are handled well. Further, by nature she radiates warmth and encouragement, which everyone feels drawn towards and wants to be close to. At the same time she can be very direct, making it clear when things are not as they should be. Although she is very capable, the range of things to be handled can sometimes become too much for the ‘Woman’. Thus she is the life who can be quite reactive to stress (and the ‘ Female’ will suffer the physical consequences of that).

The Lady
She fulfils the central role within the ‘band’ of the four lives. Although the potential of the ‘Lady’ is present from the moment of birth, it does not automatically appear, like the ‘Female’ and the ‘Woman’. This is a life which will be developed or not, and the degree of her development will be determined by the purposes of a person’s life and what she learns from her experiences. She has all round vision but can also ‘climb higher’ to get an overview of a situation. The ‘Lady’ represents the wisdom that you gather in your life and she monitors the needs of the ‘Female’ and the ‘Woman’ on the one hand and on the other, she listens to what the ‘Tenant’ has to say about what may be the next step on your journey. You could say that she is a kind of ‘Mistress of Ceremonies’, who weighs the intricate balances of the needs of the different lives in you and tunes them into each other, so that they can work together to achieve the goals you have defined. The ‘Lady’ refines and develops all the time, so as to become better at what she does.

The Tenant
The word ‘Tenant’ comes from the verb ‘ Tenir’ in the French language, which means ‘ to keep’. In both the English and Dutch language the same word has been adopted from the French root, and in our research we found a few meanings such as ‘ Occupant’. Also we came across a very interesting Dutch reference namely, ‘Keeper of the Shield’. In previous centuries, the ‘ Shield’ represented what a Lord and Lady of that House stood for. It described with pictures and colours what they stood against, what they were connected to and what their purpose in life was. This gives a good inroad to begin to understand an aspect of what the ‘Tenant’ is to do with, within the context of the four lives. You could say that she is the keeper of the deeper motives of your life, it is what you are cognisant and conscious about and what you have decided you want to be connected to. She is the magic carpet rider, unrestricted in her possibilities and free to become whatever she chooses. ‘The Tenant’ has a very refined nature, and thus she asks for continuous development to become more sensitive and able in translating the messages this life has for her. She is not static, but from every new experience where she is caused to have new insights and a greater consciousness, the ‘Tenant’ develops a bit more.
